Fans of the CW series The Flash were undoubtedly shocked when it was announced that The Perks of Being a Wallflower star Ezra Miller would portray Barry Allen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as the next few movies of the DC Extended Universe. However, director Zack Snyder has just spoken up about the reason why Grant Gustin's Scarlet Speedster will not appear in BvS, explaining that it has a lot to do with the serious tone of the Man of Steel universe!

Snyder recently spoke to New York Daily News, where he revealed that Gustin's Barry simply didn't fit into the universe he has created.

"I'm very strict with this universe and I just don't see a version where...that [tone is] not our world," Snyder stated before adding that although he admires Gustin's version of The Flash, the TV version of the character wouldn't be a fit with Batman v Superman.

"Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he's very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse [idea], so it's just not a thing that's possible," he said.

It certainly sounds like Snyder is trying to say that Gustin and The CW's version of The Flash might be a little too wholesome for the darker tone of his film, which explores a world where Batman could actually view Superman as a threat to mankind based on the destruction that unfolded in Man of Steel.

There is little doubt that The Flash is one of the more humorous characters in the DC Universe, as the speedster has a tendency to joke about even the most serious situations. Nevertheless, there is a possibility that Miller's incarnation of Barry will retain some humor, while fitting into the darker DCEU storyline that will follow throughout Batman v Superman to the two Justice League films.

The second season of The Flash returns to the CW on March 22. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will premiere on March 25.
