The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting epically big, with two movies planned for 2016 as well as multiple TV shows, including the release of Netflix's Luke Cage and the ABC pilot for Marvel's Most Wanted -- but will it be growing further? There's a new rumor regarding producers introducing comic book character Brian Braddock/Captain Britain to the MCU!

Earlier this week, Ciara McAvoy, a movie poster artist who has worked with films as varied as X-Men: First Class and last year's Victor Frankenstein, tweeted a photo of the character, asking her followers who they think would be playing the superhero. She then revealed she'd been commissioned to create a promotional poster for the project, and she was only waiting for the co-producer to give her the go-ahead.

Understandably, this sparked a wave of interest, as multiple websites reported this as a sign that Marvel was planning to add the character to the MCU. Unfortunately, it seems the rumors of the project were largely exaggerated.

According to Bleeding Cool, the story as it is right now is this: producers Chris Lark and Eleni Larchanidou are working on a reel for a version of Captain Britain, and they want to pitch it to Marvel.

"Ladies & Gentlemen I'm here to confirm that I and my co-prod Eleni Larchanidou are working on a [...] TV series based on the Marvel Comics character #CaptainBritain for 2017," Lark wrote on Twitter. "Right now we are in very early stages of development for this idea and working on things like the budget for this Reel to take to Marvel for 2017 with hopes of them helping us with the series."

So, let's see how that pans out in the next months!

Brian Braddock's sister in the comics, Betsy (also known as mutant Psylocke), will be making her début in film later this year in X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Olivia Munn. It's unclear who owns the film rights to Captain Britain, but it's believed that, while Psylocke belongs to Fox, her brother might be in Disney's Marvel Studios.

Captain Britain is a member of the Avengers and not a mutant like his sister, a different scenario than Fox-owned Maximoff twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who are both mutants (Magneto's children) and Avengers.
