American political thriller drama Homeland will return with Season 6 in October 2016. The series protagonist, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is among one of the most mysterious character ever created for a TV show -- one minute she is ordering drone strikes on the terrorists and another minute she is struggling because of her medical condition. Now if recent reports are to be believed then the upcoming season will feature Mathison's story before she joined CIA.

The Season 5 finale of Homeland, titled A False Glimmer, showed the fans the backstory of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) and according to a report published in Ecumenical News, the concept of featuring the back story of the prominent character was well received by the fans. As it was that side of Quinn which was still unknown to fans in the political thriller drama, it was for a change to see that intense drama.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, executive producer of the series Alex Gansa stated that Homeland Season 6 will show how Mathison is trying to live a normal life; and not only this, but season six will also show her backstory. Gansa stated that Mathison might get recruited by Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) when she was studying in a college.

"Clearly she came to the attention of Saul Berenson probably through a professor at some university who picked her out as somebody who was incredibly perceptive and acute about human behavior ... somebody who could thrive in the duplicitous role of intelligence work overseas. Somebody recognized these gifts and alerted Saul for this fact and she was recruited by him."

In other news, it is also being speculated that Mathison may die in the upcoming season. The Siver Times reports that David Nevin, the president of Showtime, stated that "the franchise is so strong and specific as can be imagined survive any character."
