Amazon Studios' Transparent is going on its third season soon, with Jeffrey Tambor reprising his role as Maura Pfefferman, a trans woman who embraces her gender identity later in life and her family has to adapt to who their father is. After multiple awards, it has been revealed that arguably the world's most famous trans activists is joining the cast of season 3: welcome Caitlyn Jenner!
According to The Guardian, during last Saturday's Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards, Transparent creator and producer Jill Soloway revealed that Jenner will be joining the cast of the series for its upcoming third season as a character who has yet to be revealed. The TV personality and former Olympian will begin shooting her scenes next week.
"We are all part of the same community. A lot of the transwomen who work on our show are also in her show, I Am Cait," Soloway told the Associated Press when asked whether it was hard to book Jenner into the critically acclaimed show. "Lots of crossover. Lots of friends."
Both Transparent and E!'s I Am Cait were nominated (and won) awards during GLAAD's big night, as the two shows have been viewed as important milestones in television portrayal of trans characters.
While Jenner has turned into one of the biggest advocates for transpeople in the past year, it's also true she's met with controversy due to her stance on other similar subjects, including how she openly supports Ted Cruz's bid for the Presidency. In the past, this has gotten her in the whirlwind of controversy.
About six months ago, the Keeping up with the Kardashians regular appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and things got awkward with the openly gay comedienne when it became clear that Jenner's stand on same-sex marriage wasn't exactly full-fledged support. Later on, DeGeneres discussed with Howard Stern that she couldn't understand Jenner's position as a member of the LGBT community who didn't completely support its rights.
