You've probably heard of that rumor that Suicide Squad is getting reshoots to infuse more "humor" in the film after the lukewarm reception to the seriousness in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Terminator Genisys actor Jai Courtney, who plays the beer-popping Captain Boomerang in the David Ayer film, has just confirmed that there is no need to make the DC villain flick funnier because "there's plenty of that in there!"
Courtney recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight, where he was asked whether the Suicide Squad reshoots are for the much-needed humor.
"I think there's plenty of that in there," Courtney stated, adding that the reshoots actually involves a more serious reason.
"I wouldn't say that we're going back to make it funnier, there's been some additional action stuff that we've been doing, which is pretty dope," he revealed.
The second Suicide Squad trailer certainly reveals a lot of humor, from Will Smith's Deadshot asking about a "cheerleading trial" to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn teasing about "the voices" in her head. Boomerang has his own hilarious moment when he sneaks a sip of beer away from the action. Nevertheless, Courtney also spoke up about the rumors that he was initially "nervous" about taking on a character that hasn't exactly been a fan favorite.
"Somewhat nervous, not so much," he said before explaining why he was apprehensive about taking on the DC villain.
"It's just that, when you're talking about the genesis of that character, is in that really camp, 60's comics and you read all that material, and he's racist," Courtney said, suggesting that his version of Boomerang isn't the same way.
"It's like a cliché, really old Aussie stereotype," he said.
Nevertheless, Courtney couldn't help but joke that he is glad he got the role instead of an actor who couldn't get the Australian accent right.
"But thank God they gave it to an Aussie, not someone trying to do a terrible version of our accent," he said.
Suicide Squad will also star Academy Award winner Jared Leto as the Joker. The film drops into theaters on August 5.
