Months after announcing cult TV movie Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? would get a remake to celebrate its 20th anniversary, it seems the movie will be taking one step further in the trashy department by adding an odd element of fantasy: Producer James Franco has just revealed his take on the Tori Spelling film will now trade regular danger -- with vampire lesbians.
The revelation of the new fantasy horror plot twist came from Lifetime, the network that will air the Franco remake, as they posted the synopsis of the upcoming film on their official website.
"With a story by Franco, this updated classic features a vampire love story that brings a whole new meaning to 'sleeping with danger,'" reveals the intro to the film's synopsis, giving cue to people all over the world to groan.
In the same release, Lifetime also revealed the cast for the upcoming project: Spelling, who starred in the original, will be part of the cast as the title's mother, and her original co-star Ivan Sergei is also returning for a new role, so far unknown but he could be playing the father.
The Long Home's Leila George will be playing Spelling's daughter Leah, who will be seduced by vampire lesbian Pearl (Emily Meade from Broad City) while her mother objects, only to have been right all along.
According to Vulture, Franco himself will also have a role in the film, but much like Sergei, it's being kept quiet so far. Though the story the film is based on came from his mind, it was Amber Coney (from last year's Laugh Along the Way) who wrote the script; she'll also have a role in the movie, which was directed by Shang director Melanie Aitkenhead.
Production for the film has already wrapped, and Lifetime's prepping audiences for the remake by having the original TV movie available for streaming starting April 29.
Franco's Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? will air on Lifetime on June 18.
