In another twist of the many things James Franco can accomplish, the star has just revealed plans of a remake of Tori Spelling's Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? For the remake, he partnered up with Sony Pictures and it will mark Lifetime's 20th anniversary.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Franco was responsible for penning the story for the upcoming remake, while Amber Coney from Class wrote the screenplay; Melanie Aitkenhead is set to direct the TV movie, and Franco will be one of the executive producers alongside Vince Jolivette, Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno.
While often unnecessary, remakes and reboots have turned into an everyday affair in Hollywood over the past couple of years. While they're usually of material universally considered good, this is hardly the case for a television movie starring the least popular female star of Beverly Hills 90210, who had something of a side career with Lifetime movies.
The original 1996 film, which was a NBC movie of the week, starred Spelling as a college student who falls in love with a handsome young man (Ivan Sergei) who becomes increasingly possessive of her to the point of not leaving her alone - and the naïve young girl's mother suspected something was off all along.
In all, it sounds like the perfect Lifetime movie.
Vulture reports that Lifetime and Sony Pictures are currently keeping mum on casting details for the project, but it's expected that Spelling will come back for the remake, playing the mother in the 20-years-later remake.
It's unclear whether Franco will act in the film, though he has recent a history of having roles onscreen and off in his past few projects; next year, he'll appear as the star and director of Zeroville, which also includes the talents of Megan Fox and some of Franco's most famous pals like Seth Rogen and his own brother Dave Franco.
