With two seasons of Daredevil and one of A.K.A. Jessica Jones already available on Netflix, a September release date for Luke Cage and Marvel currently in pre-production for Iron Fist, we almost have all the planned street-level superheroes -- and there's more hope! Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, kind of just revealed the production date for The Defenders!
According to The Independent, Cox attended a Netflix event in Paris last Monday, where he discussed his role in the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series on the streaming site and further shows. While he still couldn't confirm or deny whether there'd be a season 3 of Daredevil, he did reveal something pretty major: The Defenders might be released as early as next year!
"What we do know is at the end of this year we're going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome," the British actor said during the event. "I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I'm very excited to see how those world's combine... and interested to see tonally how those shows become one."
Speaking to Empire Online, Cox also revealed that Daredevil would be something of a team leader in Defenders.
So far, there have been two Netflix releases per year, with one coming out every six months or so; this year there was the second season of Daredevil and the first of Luke Cage. If Marvel is in fact filming Iron Fist and The Defenders in 2016, it would make sense that those are the ones coming out next year, which means that either Jessica Jones is getting pushed back to 2018 or we're getting 3 releases next year.
Out of the four main Defenders so far, three have already been introduced to the MCU: Cox's Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones and Mike Colter's Luke Cage. The only one left to make his on-screen début is Iron Fist, who'll be played by Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones.
