After the success of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, it's only fitting that there would be one or two other R-rated comic book movies that would be released in the future. There have been reports that a movie about Lobo is being planned, but Deadpool director Tim Miller claims that he was already supposed to work on the DC antihero's solo flick "two, three years ago!"
According to HitFix, Miller was recently on a press day for Deadpool's DVD and Blu-Ray release, where he revealed that he was approached about the possibility of directing the DC bounty hunter's standalone movie.
"I met [with DC] on Lobo two, three years ago," Miller admitted, adding that a screenplay was already prepared for the project.
"They had a script then," he shared. "And I think they even did a test for it early on."
But why didn't a Lobo movie happen? Miller explained that although there is an interest in R-rated superhero flicks, nobody was sure whether it would be successful.
"I think it's something that filmmakers and sometimes the studios want to do," he said. "They just haven't seen that they can actually make money."
Deadpool has already proven that an R-rated comic book movie about a wise-cracking antihero COULD do just that, but is there any possibility that Miller could still direct a Lobo solo film? Fans will need to keep their fingers crossed on this one.
A Lobo standalone film may soon be a reality, but a possible TV appearance from the last Czarnian has also been hinted upon in the CBS series, Supergirl. However, it doesn't look like any of Melissa Benoist's team would be happy to see him.
Wonder Woman screenwriter Jason Fuchs has already been reported to be working on the script for the Lobo solo movie. Deadpool will be available in DVD and Blu-Ray on May 10.
