5 Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana 'Avatar' Sequels In Making: James Cameron's 'Avatar 2' Delayed?

Ever since the world first saw Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in the astounding world of Pandora in 2009 release, Avatar, millions of fans knew that there was more to the story of Na'vi's and there were hints that James Cameron has started working on possible sequels. Now, after almost seven years, we finally have a release date for not only Avatar 2, but also the three more parts titled, Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5.

Over the span of seven years, the Avatar sequels have faced some major delays because of the new technology that Cameron intended to bring. It was earlier reported by MStars News that, Cameron, who earlier directed film like The Abyss, has done a thorough research about the oceans. Cameron wanted to create a new technology that will allow him and his crew to show the world beneath the lands of Pandora.

Terminator director announced his plans for Avatar 2, Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 at ongoing CinemaCon in Las Vegas. While talking with the journalists about the fantasy epic film, Cameron stated that at the very beginning, he thought of making two more sequels. But when he met four more screenwriters and some "of the top artists and designers in the world," the 61-year-old Cameron thought that the story he has in mind will require more than two parts.

Cameron was quoted by Variety as:

"We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga."

Cameron also stated that along with his screenwriters, they are trying to create a new world for the movie lovers and for that they are exceeding their own limits. Titanic director was further quoted by Deadline as:

"The environments, new cultures - whatever it takes to bring it to life. From what I'm seeing of the art on the wall ... in pure imagination is just beyond the first film. I'm speechless."

Avatar 2 is slated to release in 2018 and the other possible sequels in the Avatar Universe will release during Christmas-time in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
