With the lead roles already cast, Netflix is closer than ever to Marvel's The Defenders. In the upcoming freshmen season, will Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) fight for "leadership of the team?"
As we previously mentioned, Matt Murdock (Cox) was a young boy when he was struck blind after a near fatal car accident. Though everyone thinks he lives in complete darkness, radioactive chemicals gave him back his sight. By day, Murdock pretends to be the blind lawyer attending courtroom battles. The man without fear continues his crime-fighting adventures after defeating Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), which nearly came with a heavy cost. In the sophomore season, the man without fear with The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and Elektra (Elodie Yung).
We also mentioned, Jessica Jones (Ritter) suffers from post-traumatic stress due to her dark times with Kilgrave (David Tennant). As the sole owner of Alias Private Investigations, Jessica is drawn to a mysterious man, Luke Cage (Colter) who seems to hiding a secret of his own. Wanting revenge for what she did to him, Kilgrave is using to make those around Jones suffer before he finally meets her face-to-face.
In the aftermath of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, it's going to take the Dark Knight to find the other superheroes to form the Justice League. It was SHIELD agent Philip Coulson to bring together the Avengers. Who will form The Defenders?
In an interview with Empire, Cox reveals Matt Murdock acknowledges "He can't do this alone. He's been so adamant about being a lone wolf, about doing it himself, so I think that in order for him to get to The Defenders we needed this second season. We needed to see him be broken individually so that he can - he's willing to form a team."
According to TV Line, Marco Ramirez and Douglas Petrie, the showrunners from the sophomore season of Marvel's Daredevil, have been tapped to serve as showrunners for Marvel's The Defenders.
Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb states, "They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that's makes us Marvel."
The Boardwalk Empire actor adds, "The lesson that Matt has had to learn in the second season of Daredevil is that he needs help."
Jessica Jones and Daredevil Season 1 and 2 are available to bing-watch on Netflix. Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix September 30.
No word yet on when The Defenders and Iron Fist will debut on Netflix.
