Are 'Mad Men' and 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' Season 2 in the Same Universe? [SPOILERS]

Season 2 of Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is finally available and it brings back some of the kookiest characters from the first time around, including Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne -- but had we seen that character before this show? One joke the new season could suggest the Reverend is another Jon Hamm character: Don Draper from Mad Men!

In the fourth episode of the Netflix comedy's new season, Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) realizes her fellow Mole Woman Gretchen (Lauren Adams) has fallen right into a new cult, the very suspiciously named Church of Cosmetology. Of course, ever-positive Kimmy goes to her rescue, but the exceedingly gullible Gretchen reminds her of all the times the Reverend was "right" about things, to which Kimmy responds with a possible clue:

"The Reverend was a psycho liar who claimed he came up with the 'Buy the World a Coke' commercial!" Kimmy tells Gretchen.

Mad Men, which earned Hamm an Emmy months back, ended with his character Don Draper seemingly creating the 1971 Coca-Cola commercial after a short stint in a California spiritual retreat. Could this mean that, decades later, Don flipped out and ended up kidnapping young girls and creating a Doomsday cult?

Decider poses another possible theory, related to another subplot in Season 2 of Kimmy Schmidt: perhaps Don Draper was actually a past life of the Reverend's. The timeframe seems a little forced on that one, but why not?

Of course, seeing as this is a Tina Fey show, chances are the writers were just getting cheeky and very meta with having Hamm as part of the show's universe, but would it really seem that far off to think the endlessly self-destructive Don Draper could create a cult?

Still, unless Don changed his life habits (as in less smoking, less drinking and fewer random women), it seems unlikely that he'd look that well 25 years after Mad Men ended, as the Reverend kidnapped the Mole Women in the mid-to-late 1990s.

Whatever the case, it's one of the best jokes from the show -- and in the same episode another Mole Woman says they put "a madman in jail together," a reference slightly more subtle.
