It may be understandable why Scarlet Witch appears to be the one of the most troubled characters in Captain America: Civil War. After all, she just lost her brother Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in Avengers: Age of Ultron. But is it possible that Elizabeth Olsen's character will evolve in Captain America 3 and achieve her power's full potential in Avengers: Infinity War?
Civil War co-director Joe Russo recently attended a press conference (via Clevver Movies), where he confirmed that Wanda Maximoff is learning to work with her powers in the movie.
"She is on a growth arc, and it is part of her development," Russo said of Scarlet Witch, adding that it is important that Wanda learns more about what she is capable of in Civil War.
"It is very tricky with powerful characters, because unless they have an internal struggle or a flaw that limits them then they do become limitless," he stated, adding that characters begin to lose their charm when they are too perfect.
"The storytelling becomes muddled and not very interesting," Russo noted.
But just how "powerful" is Scarlet Witch in Captain America 3? Russo hinted that Wanda could take on all of the Avengers if she knew how to use her skills properly.
"You know she could've stopped that fight at the airport [in Civil War] in 5 seconds if she were at the peak of her powers, so it really has to do her character specifically going on a journey to understand what the limits of her powers are," he said before offering a hint as to what could happen to Scarlet Witch in Civil War.
"She makes a mistake very early in the movie that sets her back, and we'll get to see where she goes in Infinity War," Russo teased.
Russo co-directed Civil War with his brother Anthony, and they will both work on the two-part Infinity War movies.
Captain America: Civil War crashes into theaters on May 6.
