Something wonderful called the Marvel Cinematic Universe was created when the world was mesmerized by seeing Robert Downey Jr. playing billionaire turned superhero Tony Stark, and Iron Man director Jon Favreau had a lot to do with that success. Just as his latest film breaks box office records, the filmmaker made an awesome announcement: he's one of the producers of Avengers: Infinity War!
Digital Spy recently spoke to the filmmaker, whose new film The Jungle Book is breaking box office records, and he confirmed he'd be executive producing the two upcoming Infinity War movies alongside the film's directors, the Russo brothers.
"I talk to them about it all the time. I've worked both in front of and behind the camera with Marvel and I really love what they're doing right now," Favreau gushed, speaking about directing and producing in the MCU aside from playing Happy Hogan in the movies. "It's a really exciting time to be over there. I've seen a rough cut of Civil War and it's fantastic. We're constantly looking for things to do together. And now I'm freed up."
Aside from directing the first two Iron Man movies, Favreau also executive produced the two Avengers films so far, which were directed by Joss Whedon. He's also continued to work with Disney outside of Marvel, with Jungle Book and an already-announced sequel.
In any case, it's great to see some of the biggest team members behind the camera are also assembling in the fight against Josh Brolin's Thanos!
According to IGN, Favreau talked a bit more at length about Civil War, which won't be out for another two weeks. When asked what his favorite thing about the movie was, the filmmaker seemed to give fans even more hope: Favreau agrees Tom Holland's Spidey is the best part of Civil War, and so is the character's relationship with Stark!
