Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star, Ben Affleck is planning to make a solo Batman film. If recent updates are to be believed then, the upcoming film will show Jim Carrey reprising his role Batman's archenemy Edward Nygma aka The Riddler in it.
DC Comics had high hopes with Affleck and Henry Cavill starrer Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The superhero film was made with a budget of $250 million and as reported by Box Office Mojo, it grossed $863 million dollars. Despite making a huge profit at the box-office, the film disappointed a lot of Batman and Superman fans. Now, it looks like DC Comics is surely going to play a huge gamble with Affleck's solo Batman movie.
Batman is among those superheroes who has a major fan following because of his villains. So, if Affleck is going to make a solo Batman movie, then the major task for them would be to think about the antagonist they are going to bring. Birth.Death.Movies reported that along with DC Comic'c chief creative officer, Geoff Jones, Affleck is planning to bring something new to the table like, The Penguin or The Riddler.
In the past, acclaimed directors like Leslie H. Martinson, Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan directed films featuring Batman and his famous villains. 1995s Batman Forever featured Val Kilmer in the title role along with Tommy Lee Jones, Nicole Kidman and Carrey. Hollywood Latest Updates speculated that it would be a big step from DC Comics if they tried to bring Carrey to play the role of The Riddler in the film. In an earlier interview with MTV UK, Carrey stated that he would love to play the character again.
"I'd love to work in the new, graphic novel versions of the movie. I don't know about reprising the role," Carrey stated.
Affleck is currently busy in shooting for Justice League Part One, in which he will reprise his role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Before appearing in that, he will also be seen in the upcoming Suicide Squad. It looks like, after Justice League, Affleck will start shooting for his solo Batman movie.
Nothing is yet confirmed as of now, apart from the news that Affleck is serious about his solo Batman movie.
What do you think of Carrey reprising his role of The Riddler in the new Batman movie? Will that be a bold move?
