Fans have been left shaken and stirred up after AMC aired the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead? By the time Season 7 airs its premiere, will we finally figure out how Negan (Jeffry Dean Morgan) was able to "game the audience?"
In our previous recap, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan (Lennie James) went off in search of Carol, while Daryl l(Norman Reedus) left Alexandria to seek revenge for Denise's death. Unfortunately, with Glenn and Michonne captured by the Saviors, Dwight had the upper-hand and shot Daryl at point-blank range. Rick came back to Alexandria empty-handed, but only to hear Maggie screaming in pain.
In our recent recap, with Maggie (Lauren Cohan)'s health deteriorating, Rick and the group needed to get her to the Hilltop community, but the roads were blocked by the Saviors. Arriving in the nick of time, Morgan saved Carol (Melissa McBride) as he shot down her stalker. Finally captured by the Saviors, Rick and the others met with their diabolical leader, Negan. In the cliffhanger, Negan beat someone from Rick's team to death with Lucille, but we don't know which one.
According to E! Online, Robert Kirkman, executive producer on the AMC drama and co-creator of the black-and-white comic book series, has penned an open letter fans. In issue No. 154 of The Walking Dead, Kirkman addresses the angry fans who feel cheated by the cliffhanger. In the installment's Letter Hacks column, the Marvel Zombies writer explains the aim was to always get the viewers talking.
As transcribed by Comic Book Resources, The Outcast scribe states, "We weren't trying to game the audience, we weren't trying to drive you crazy, and we certainly weren't trying to FORCE you to come back for season seven...we hope you were always planning on doing that and still plan on doing that. We did want you to talk. And talk you are."
Kirkman adds, "For some of you, that effort backfired and you're angry. And for that, I'm sorry. The only thing I can PROMISE you is that the season seven premiere is going to be awesome," he wrote. "And every minute of the season six finale was important and was setting something up that you probably won't see coming...Be afraid...be very afraid. And excited!"
The Walking Dead will return on AMC for Season 7.
Readers, what do you think of Kirkman's apology letter?
