Silicon Valley S03E04 Maleant Data Systems Solutions Thomas Middleditch/Richard Premiere Recap

From the comedic mind of Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head), Season 3 continues with the premiere of Silicon Valley on HBO. In Episode 2, will Erlich Bachman (T.J. Miller), Richard Hendriks (Thomas Middleditch), and the rest of the tech gang survive being Maleant Data Systems Solutions?

Jack Barker (Stephen Tobolowsky) has a meeting with Richard and his friends, who are caught red-handed. Barker has a box that he can sell and investors want to buy. Richard wants to build the platform and makes a compromises. While trying to make a deal, Richard hits his head and hurts his nose.

Elrich tries to rent a room but Jared (Zach Woods) interrupts the sell. Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) and Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) are working around the clock to make the code while Richard has a meeting about the box design.  

Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) has fired his Guru guy and refuses to answer his call. Because Gilfoyle messed with the speed, Richard and the rest of the team are now more excited about the box. Elrich discovers Jared living in his garage. He also learns abut another incubator run by Big Head (Josh Brener). 

Belson's Guru mentions the rumors that Hooli is showing weakness after being defeated by Richard. After Richard and his team worked on the box, Barker doesn't have a buyer. But Richard believes his box can be faster than the competition. 

Big Head didn't even realize he was making an incubator. Elrich storms out mad but his car won't even start. Elrich has to team up with Big Head and become partners. During the Hooli meeting, Belson believes it's time to look outward and fix the mistakes of Nucleus.

Dinesh and Gilfoyle make fun of Elrich after they hear Big Head has a better incubator. During the business meeting, Monica (Amanda Crews) isn't happy with the deal with Jack, who promised to sell the algorithm to the buyer. Laurie (Suzanne Cryer) is happy with the numbers but she is more interested in the box than the platform. 

Monica believes the platform will be more beneficial than the box. Knowing she outvoted Barker and Laurie, Monica thinks she will be fired. 

Belson calls Richard and boasts that he has bought Endframe, which has Richard's algorithm. Stoned out of his mind, Elrich realizes that Belson has set the price-point. Belson doesn't even realize he has re-hired his Hooli engineers at Endframe. 

Laurie has fired Barker and wants Richard to work on the platform. The CEO chair will remain empty though, with no boss in charge.
