AMC airs the premiere of DC Comics/Vertigo's Preacher, adapted by collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. This is the perfect opportunity to check out Dominic Cooper (Jesse Custer), Ruth Negga (Tulip O'Hare), and Joe Gilgun (Cassidy).
As we previously mentioned, Preacher follows Jesse Custer (Cooper) a conflicted man of the cloth in a small Texas town out in the middle of nowhere. Jesse finds himself inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse joins his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Negga), and a hard-drinking Irish vampire named Cassidy (Gilgun) as they embark on a journey to, literally, find God
We have 5 reasons why you should watch Preacher here:
5) He Is The Son Of A Preacher Man!
After stealing the spotlight as Howard Stark in the first Captain America movie, the Agent Carter actor is the lead of his own series. With the hair and beard, Dominic Cooper nails the disheveled and wild look of his comic book alter ego. Listen carefully when the Greenwich, London native speaks, because he has the American accent down pat!
4) The Supporting Cast!
This critic loves the Preacher comic books and is very excited for audiences to meet Cassidy! Cassidy is just bonkers in the comics and I cannot wait to see how the Misfits actor brings the character to life! If you watch carefully at the trailers, viewers will catch glimpses of Tulip's action-packed scenes. You can definitely tell Ruth Negga's role is more than just the love interest!
3) The Breaking Bad Influence!
Are you a fan of Breaking Bad as much as this writer's? Preacher showrunner Sam Catlin previously wrote the second season episode 4 Days Out. This is the episode where Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) find themselves stranded when their RV breaks down. The relationship between them changes when Jesse notices Walter coughing up blood. With a Breaking Bad connection, you know the writing is going to be gripping and awesome!
2) The Dark Side of Comic Books!
AMC has a smash hit with The Walking Dead, which is already on its way to a seventh season. That comic book adaptation has worked because the show creators know when to stay true to the original source material and when to stray. Like Robert Kirkman, the comic book creators Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon are also involved with the show as executive producers.
1) This Is Not The End!
Seth Rogen and Even Goldberg wrote and directed the horror comedy, This is the End. These two filmmakers know how to deliver the scares and laughs; plus bring in the performances from their ensemble. This time around, the Neighbors actor isn't in front of the camera and is more hands-on with the shots.
Preacher will premiere on AMC May 22 at 10pm.
