'Person of Interest' S05E09: Sotto Voce Sarah Shahi, Amy Acker Root/Shaw Premiere Recap

CBS continues the Season 5 premiere of Person of Interest. In Episode 9, Sotto Voce, are Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), John Reese (Caviezel), Sameen Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and Root (Amy Acker) ready to fight the all-out war between Samaritan and The Machine?

After a family is stranded in the desert, Shaw shows up to save them and steals a truck to cross the border. While on a stakeout, Reese and Finch are checking over their new number. Root is also on her solo mission, which put her in the path of Samaritan. 

Reese tries to stop his number from blowing himself up. While interrogating his number, Reese learns he was forced to plant the bomb. At the precinct, Fusco still doesn't have a precinct. Reese realizes the number's wife was taken hostage.

The number gets a call; his wife is going to die because the bomb didn't go off. Listening in on the call, Finch recognizes the mysterious "voice." As Finch discovers where the missing wife is, Reese promises he will bring her back safely.  All of sudden, Reese stumbles upon another explosion. 

Soon every 911 call says there is a bomb in the building. With the bomb squad stretched thin, Finch is working with Elias on stopping the Voice. Meanwhile, Root discovers a second shooter as she follows Samaritan's agents. 

Fusco has captured the right suspect but all he does is smile. Reese's number receives a package inside the precinct. Reese and Elias meet with The Custodian, who is the best bomb-maker in the city. They want to know how many bombs he made to the Voice.

After Reese discovers his number missing, he grabs him before he could make a mistake. The number was supposed to get arrested and open up the holding cells. With the cells unlocked, the prisoners are locking themselves inside the precinct. 

As Root chases after Samaritan's agent, she finds herself fighting Shaw. Root wraps her arms around Shaw. Shaw leaves the reunion abruptly because it's not safe. Shaw lies and tells Root that she ends up dead in all the simulations.

Finch knows the source of the bomb's detonator. Reese and Fusco are forced to work together during the precinct's blackout. After Reese and Fusco take down a suspect, Finch has discovered The Voice's base of operation. Reese and Fusco realize the Voice is tying up loose ends. 

After catching the traitor, Fusco and Reese find themselves in an intense shootout. Shaw reveals to Root that she's not calling the shots anymore. Root points the gun at herself because she cannot live without her. 

Finch discovers Reese's number isn't who he says he is. Fusco takes the shot meant for Reese. With the perpetrator gone, the precinct is left in ruins. Finch meets with The Voice face-to-face before he drives away. Elias then blows up the getaway car.

After Fusco is patched up, Reese reveals the truth to his partner. Shaw is brought back to the team and stays with them.
