'Person of Interest' S05E10: The Day the World Went Away Root/Shaw/Finch/Reese Premiere Recap

CBS continues the Season 5 premiere of Person of Interest. In Episode 10, The Day The World Went Away, are Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), John Reese (Caviezel), Sameen Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and Root (Amy Acker) ready to fight the all-out war between Samaritan and The Machine?

Finch is speaking to the Machine, wondering what happens next. Very bad things are coming as Finch accepts his death. He just wants his friends to stay alive. Finch gets worries when he's recognized by a waitress.

Root is worried about Shaw's well-being and Finch's decision to shut The Machine. She warns him that they are going to lose. The Machine is his child and sh will die unmourned. Finch wanted to to allow the Machine to choose its own name and have a voice. 

In the middle of the the streets, Reese and Fusco (Kevin Chapman) get the call. Reese and Root protect Finch from Samaritan agents after his cover is blown.  Shaw shows up at Elias' hideout and blames herself for the mess. With Fusco in the room, Root gave something to the Machine to defend herself. 

As Samaritan agents show up, Reese and Elias work together to save Finch. At the hi-rises, Finch hides at a former meth lab.Elias wants to die on the mat than throw in the towel. The two gangs have formed a truce to protect Finch and his room. 

Finch explains to Elias that he expected to end up in prison. Finch realizes he was caught on a surveillance camera. Samaritan has been monitoring everything they did in the past. As Reese and Fusco investigate a shooting at Temporary Resolutions, Root and Shaw realize they are each other's weakness.

While Root and Shaw hold hands, more agents arrive at the hi-rise. Reese and Fusco find themselves under attack. During the shooting, Elias takes a bullet to the head while protecting Finch. In shock, Finch is captured and taken away by Samaritan's agents. 

Reese finds himself at the crime scene, closing up Elias' eyes. Fusco gets a picture of the getaway vehicle from a bystander. Finch meets with Mr. Greer at their hideout. Samaritan actually needs Finch's help for something. 

Shaw and Root show up to rescue Finch. While the two are debating philosophy, the duo find themselves under fire. Now that Samaritan has taken the big guns, Shaw stalls so that Root and Finch can escape. During the car chase, Root fires back but gets shot by a sniper.

Finch is held under arrest as Root bleeds in her car. After his mugshot is taken, Finch is locked up in interrogation, wanted for treason. The others have to split as Root is in the hospital. Mad as hell, Finch realizes he has to bend the rules to let hope live. He is going to kill Samaritan and break all his rules in the process.

Finch then gets a call from The Machine, now in the voice of Root. Fusco then finds Root dead in the hospital. Finch asks The Machine to help him fight.
