Following in the footsteps of Ghostbusters, there's a new all-female cast reboot in the works in Hollywood: a new iteration of caper film Ocean's Eleven, led by Sandra Bullock in the George Clooney role. After rumors that two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett was circling the Brad Pitt role, a few other amazing ladies could be joining the cast: Elizabeth Banks, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter!
The rumor of the three new additions to the cast comes from ShowBiz 411, an outlet that also "confirms" both Bullock and Blanchett as the leading ladies of the upcoming film, although nothing has been officially announced by any studio just yet.
Banks recently dropped out of a directing gig on Pitch Perfect 3 and wrapped filming for the Power Rangers movie. Bonham-Carter's fresh off reprising her role as the evil Red Queen in Alice Through the Looking Glass and Kaling recently had her show, The Mindy Project, renewed for another season on Hulu.
If it's true that these five ladies are confirmed to take on roles in the reboot or remake, that leaves a few more roles to be filled out, and so far it remains unclear what other famous ladies will be joining Bullock's team. However, if the choices are all as top-notch as the ones being thrown around at the moment, we can probably expect some of the best actresses in Hollywood to be involved in the upcoming film.
According to Moviefone, the new Ocean's Eleven spinoff will have a smaller crew than its predecessor franchise: so far, it's being called Ocean's Ocho, so that means eight ladies doing some sleek cat burglary.
Gary Ross, who directed the first Hunger Games movie, is currently involved behind the scenes, and early on, he claimed Katniss Everdeen actress Jennifer Lawrence was also circling a role, though it seems this isn't happening anymore. The same goes for rumors that Clooney would be reprising his role from the trilogy in the movie.
Still, so far it seems like Ocean's Ocho is being worked to become a new franchise, and Clooney or one of his co-stars in the Steven Soderbergh-directed trilogy could end up making cameos at one point or another, if it's successful.
This will be the third time Ocean's Eleven makes it to the big screen: decades before the Clooney/Pitt remake, the original 1960 film was conceived as a Rat Pack vehicle and starred Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in the two main roles.
