Following her April 19 arrest in Atlanta, Georgia, Reese Witherspoon cancelled some television press appearances for her new film Mud. After her mugshot made its rounds around the Internet, an even more embarrassing piece of evidence surfaced: a video of her and husband Jim Toth's arrest. She was set to appear on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" tonight, but her name has been removed from the taping list. Reese was also supposed to be a guest on "Good Morning America" yesterday, but cancelled. Jimmy Kimmel seems to be having some fun with her arrest, though. His Monday night monologue had a few jokes about the 37-year-old Oscar winner.
On Monday night's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the host poked fun at the actress:
"The police report says she asked the cop 'Do you know my name? You're about to find out who I am.' Does that ever work? 'Do you know who I am?' is second only to 'Do you know who my father is?' It's a bad question because the answer is either 'no' -- which is embarrassing -- or 'yes, and you're going to jail.'"
What is pretty ironic is that, months ago, on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Reese actually took part in a skit with Matt Damon where
Reese has since apologized for her behavior during the arrest. She said, "I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior."
Her Mud co-star, Matthew McConaughey praised Reese for how she handled the situation, saying, "I'm happy to see that she seems the kind of woman who did what she did: Come out and be forthright about it. Look it in the eye and be forthright."
Here is the video of her arrest:
