Carrie Fisher's death has Hollywood mourning the death of a legendary actress and the social media was flooded with messages from friends as well as the fans of the "Star Wars" actress, which also included Steve Martin. But, he later deleted his tweet due to sexist accusations.
After the death of Carrie Fisher, social media has been flooded with tributes from fans of the actress as well as her friends mourning for the loss. Steve Martin also took to Twitter and wrote, "When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well."
But, soon he was at the receiving end of a backlash as his post was viewed to be sexist and that he focused more on appearance and beauty rather than the talent of the actress, who played the iconic character of Princess Leia Organa in the "Star Wars" franchise. Martin had to ultimately delete his tribute, reports Time.
Notably, the "Star Wars" actress had always been vocal about her feminist views and has mentioned on many occasions that she does not want to be perceived as a sex symbol or for her physical beauty.
Though Fisher was criticized for his tribute to Carrie Fisher, a section of people also backed Martin stating that it was a time to mourn together and not against each other. Fans also expressed that had the actress had been alive, she would have laughed at the matter, reports Los Angeles Times.
It is worth mentioning here that Fisher had just concluded filming her part as Princess Leia in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," which is scheduled to hit theatres next year in December. Moreover, it was also said that had she been alive, she would have appeared in "Star Wars: Episode IX" as well.
But with the sudden demise of the legendary Carrie Fisher, it remains to be seen if "Star Wars: Episode VIII" has to undergo any change in terms of her role as Princess Leia or to the plot of the movie.
