Rebecca Ferguson has revealed that she has been asked to peform at Donald Trump's inauguration Ceremony.

The 30-year-old singer announced this news on Twitter, in the process informing her fans that she would graciously accept the invitation to peform from the American President-elect is she is allowed to perform the anti-lynching track, Strange Fruit.

This song was originally recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939, but at first it was written as a poem by Abel Meeropol. It describes the lynching of African Americans in the early 20th century and has been hailed as one of the greatest first protest songs.

It has since been one of the most covered songs in the struggle of black people against Racism.

Rebecca revealed that the song speaks to all the disregarded and down-trodden black people in the US, if she can sing it then she'll see Trump in Washington.

The 2010 X Factor runner-up Ferguson, released an album covering Billie Holiday songs in 2015, although Strange Fruit does not exist on that track.

Recent reports suggest that the US President-elect is struggling to find singers to perform at his swearing ceremony on 20th January.

In the Barack Obama Inauguration in 2009, Beyonce and Aretha Franklin performed that day.

Claims were made that Trump's team have considered breaking protocol regarding the ceremony and will offer an appearance fee to get an A-list performance.

The only confirmed performers for the function are Radio City Rockettes, Mormon Tabernacle Choir and America's Got-Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho who will sing the National Anthem of the country.

The Liverpool-based singer Rebecca recently launched her fourth album, at a star studded event held at the Malmaison hotel in her native Liverpool back in October.

She hasn't replied to the offer made by the President-elect but it remains to be seen whether Donald Trump will ever allow her to sing that song which may conjure controversies.
