Following the debut of the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play, fans had been expecting HTC to launch its 2017 flagship smartphone, known as the HTC 11.
Rumors have been circulating that the company will launch its flagship smartphone HTC 11, sporting with Snapdragon 835 chipset, dual-rear camera setup and 8GB RAM. However, it seems HTC has a different plan for this year.
A new HTC flagship is likely to debut this year but it would not be called the HTC 11. The company is also going to restrict the number phone that will be launched this year. HTC's President of Smartphone and Connected Devices Business Chialin Chang revealed this information in an interview with Engadget, but it is yet to be confirmed.
Chang was more forthcoming in other areas though as he revealed that HTC will only release around seven smartphones this year, which is half of the number of smartphones launched by the developer last year.
The HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play that were recently announced are also included in the figure, which means fans will only see few more devices from HTC this year, some of which will be affordable handsets in the Desire range, Techradar. Chang revealed that the company is actively working towards releasing a new Desire-line of smartphones aimed at people who wish to buy fun and affordable devices.
Although, there is no much information with regards to the new Desire smartphones, fans are expecting the developer to announce the highly anticipated One X10 at the MWC 2017.
The HTC One X10 feature a 5.5 inches full HD LCD display and run an octa-core MT6755V/C ARM chipset clocked at 1.9GHz. It will also have a 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage, same as its predecessor, One X9, according to BGR. The One X10 will feature a 16.3 megapixel rear shooter and 8 megapixel front camera. The device is reported to have a mid-range price tag.
Chang explained that the decision to launch a limited number of smartphones in 2017 is due to revenue losses it incurred in 2016. The decision is apparently made to allow the company focus on other very important issues including the unique selling points of its phones, so as to help them stand out from the competition, instead of releasing so many similar phones and hoping for the best.
However, aside the flagship speculation of the so-called HTC 11 or whatever it ends up being called, there are no other information available.
