Fans of Sylvester Stallone's action packed ensemble franchise "The Expendables" will have a fresh sequel in 2018. This was confirmed by Stallone himself on his Facebook vlog.
"[The next Expendables is] gonna be great, fingers crossed. We're gonna do our best and I think we've got some really great attitude going, some great ideas," Stallone shared in his post, Digital Spy reported.
Stallone assured that they've cooked up something different for the fourth installment of the action franchise that includes in its cast Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Terry Crewes, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy 'The Natural" Couture, as well as up and coming action superstars.
The last installment featured Mel Gibson as a main villain and Harrison Ford as The Expendables' ally. It also cast Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, and boxer Victor Ortiz as the latest additions to the crew. Despite the amount of starpower, the movie underperformed in the box office compared to its two predecessors which put the future of the franchise in question.
Early rumors hinted that the franchise will be discontinued and in its place, an all female version called The Expendabelles will be developed. Sigourney Weaver was earlier linked to the movie as well as Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich and Charlie's Angels alum Cameron Diaz.
According to Den of Geek, the film is reportedly planning to begin shooting late this year to meet the 2018 release target but it is unsure who among the star studded cast members will return to the franchise.
The film is expected to the be the final installment in the franchise but this may not be the end for the brand as a television series is reportedly being considered after the movie's release. Jackie Chan, Hulk Hogan and Pierce Brosnan have reportedly been approached to join the cast for the final movie.
