The new BlackBerry Mercury device has been spotted on TV in an episode of "Last Man Standing," used by Michael Baxter, as played by Tim Allen. Allen's character is reportedly seen using the upcoming BlackBerry several times.
The BlackBerry Mercury was originally unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, in early January. "The BlackBerry Mercury is the last model we engineered and designed our self, yes that will be the last one," said TLC. BlackBerry is expected to reveal the said device at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, reports Android Headlines.
Tim Allen is said to be a fan of BlackBerry devices, particularly those with a keyboard. He and his character have been seen with several of the recent BlackBerry devices that include the BlackBerry Passport and BlackBerry Priv. Other characters in the show have also been seen using other BlackBerry models like the BlackBerry DTEK60.
For the reference, BlackBerry Mercury will offer a 4.5-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, though it isn't known what the resolution will be. There's also a front mounted touch-sensitive QWERTY keyboard, which can also be used as a track pad. BlackBerry has integrated a fingerprint sensor as part of the space bar. The device is believed to have a 3.5mm headphone port and a USB Type-C port and a 3,400 mAh battery.
This will be very innovative type of device input, as the company has managed to bring its iconic QWERTY design into the touchscreen era. The upcoming device will have mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with 3 GB of RAM. On camera front it will feature 18-megapixel unit, which might be similar to the 18-megapixel camera used on the BlackBerry Priv.
"Last Man Standing" show airs on ABC every Friday at 8:00 p.m. The Blackberry Mercury, however, will be officially introduced in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
