Another one of DC's comics gets an adaptation in the "Black Lightning" TV series on Fox. It's not sure whether the "Black Lightning" storyline will cross over to the arcs of "Arrow", "Supergirl", or "The Flash", but many more people are scratching their heads at this impressive but little-known DC superhero.

"Black Lightning" TV series will not join the Arrowverse

Black Lightning was one of the first few black superheroes in the comic book world. His alter ego is Jefferson Pierce, a gold medal Olympian and high school principal with superpowers. He started using them when one of his students was killed by a notorious gang.

While the character doesn't appear much in many well-known DC comics, Black Lightning did garner an invitation to join the Justice League, making him a formidable hero. During the Television Critics Association press tour, "Arrow" producer Greg Berlanti said that the "Black Lightning" TV series will follow in the vein of "Gotham" and "Lucifer", Inverse reports.

In other words, they will not cross paths with Arrow and his ilk, but this is not written in stone and perhaps DC fans will still see Black Lightning hanging out with younger superheroes like Supergirl and The Flash. After all, Black Lightning is a meta-human living in Metropolis, Superman's territory.

"Black Lightning" TV series cast and air date not yet confirmed

The "Black Lightning" TV series cast has not been revealed yet, but production is already underway. It will begin in March and will be filmed in New Orleans. According to Screen Rant, after the pilot's production, Fox will review the episode and decide whether to order the rest of the season during May next year.

There will be some changes to the superhero's backstory, though. The "Black Lightning" TV series synopsis reveals that the story will begin after Pierce has "retired" from crime fighting. He dons his costume again when a star student gets involved with a local gang.
