While fans of "The Vampire Diaries" wait at the edge of their seats about how the series will conclude after its eighth season, its spinoff show "The Originals" promises to hold its own in terms of delivering excitement when it delivers a five year time jump for the Season 4 premiere.
The CW has recently released the latest trailer for Season 4 which showed the show picking up from the events of the Season 3 finale. Klaus is still chained and his "son" Marcel has regained control of New Orleans from his sire, TVLine reported.
"The Originals" Season 4 trailer opens with Marcel making a speech about being on the fifth year since the fall of the Mikaelsons, underscoring the need to maintain the current status quo. It also shows a New Orleans in chaos. Despite the discord, Marcel seems to be enjoying his position on top of the vampire heirarchy and rubs Klaus' face in his failure saying: "New Orleans, the city you like to say you built, it's mine," a statement which is sure to bear some consequence when Klaus exacts his revenge.
One of the biggest surprises in the trailer, however, is the inclusion of a character that fans of the show thought they've seen the last of. As Klaus struggles to free himself from his predicament, he calls out for Cami, a character who was killed off last season. Surprisingly, Camille does appear beside Klaus in his cell, leading many fans to believe that she may just be a figment of Klaus' imagination.
Despite the bleakness of Klaus' situation, some encouragement can be found with Hayley working hard to bring back her family, and even bringing together seven werewolf clans to help the Mikaelsons. The problem is that when she eventually finds Elijah, he is "sleeping" in his coffin.
Viewers are expected to meet Klaus' daughter Hope, who has also grown in the space of the time jump. According to earlier reports, she may be Klaus' savior as she has the potential to have the same amount of power that her father has, being a hybrid and an Original vampire at the same time. The role will be played by Summer Fontana, according to Spoilers Guide.
"The Originals" Season 4 will return to The CW on March 17 to replace "The Vampire Diaries" on its timeslot.
