Are promises really meant to be broken? Donald Trump winning the presidency may have caused most of Americans despise politics even more. But then, Donald has made very bold promises just days after successfully being elected as the US President. One of those promises is that he would not be taking any day-off or vacations. Now that really is bold!
Trump stated he would take only a $1 salary as the US president and indeed vowed not to take any vacation which was shown live during his first major interview with CBS's 60 Minutes. "We have so much work. There's so much work to be done. And I want to get it done for the people. I want to get it done. We're lowering taxes; we're taking care of health care. I mean, there's just so much to be done. So I don't think we'll be very big on vacations, no." Trump said.
In addition, Trump insisted during his campaigns that he could not forsee himself leaving the presidential house with all the work aligned for him to be done. However, in reality, President Trump, in less than four weeks of his actual term is already headed to his third outing from the White House. According to reports, Donald Trump plans to head to his own Florida resort, Mar-A-Lago, for the February 17 which is a weekend, according to Think Progress.
There is nothing wrong if the US President goes on a trip but the controversy stirred up when he himself promised not to have any vacation in the first place. Even more so, Trump previously criticized then-US President Barack Obama and then-First Lady Michelle Obama's own vacation time which is a strong example of hypocrisy.
Meanwhile, critics stated that the President himself benefits from his visits to Mar-A-Lago. His visits can mean that he refused to abandon his business empire. Reportedly, membership fees at Mar-A-Lago were doubled up to $200,000. Donald Trump's weekly vacations to Mar-A-Lago reportedly cost taxpayers $3 million each, according to Politico.
