Ian Somerhalder, Nikki Reed Divorce: 'The Vampire Diaries' Damon, Elena Reunite In Real Life?

Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed's marriage is back on the rocks now that Nina Dobrev, Somerhalder's ex-lover, is back on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, or so say the rumors. What's more, TVD actor even mentioned during an interview that he wants Damon to end up with Elena on the show. Could this mean that he hopes that Damon and Elena reunite in real life too?

It is no secret to "The Vampire Diaries" fans that Somerhalder and Dobrev, who played the beloved characters of Damon and Elena onscreen, hooked up during the early seasons of the show. However, their relationship suffered bitter fallout, after which Somerhalder moved onto dating one of Dobrev's best friends, Nikki Reed, of the "Twilight" fame. As a result, Dobrev decided to quit after "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6, leaving thousands of "Delena" fans heartbroken.

Somerhalder and Reed soon tied the knot and are even expecting their first child. However, rumors that the couple might be getting a divorce never died down and have resurfaced now that the character of Elena is all set to make a comeback in "The Vampire Diaries" Series Finale.

The rumors were further fueled by Somerhalder's comments during an interview with Variety that Damon and Elena deserve a happy ending. "I don't think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending," Somerhalder said. "I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They've lived long enough."

Reed tried to squash all the ongoing rumors about Dobrev disrupting her happily married life by posting a selfie on Instagram of the two of them along with Somerhalder in a restaurant together, Seventeen Magazine reports. Even though she wrote a lengthy caption along with the picture, voicing her frustration at what she claimed were baseless stories flying around, the rumors continue to swirl.
