The new "CHiPS" movie will be out this year and it will be a remake of the 80s drama that once starred Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox as California Highway Patrolmen. The 2017 film is going to feature action, comedy, and R-rated nudity, but not everyone is happy with the reboot.

The original "CHiPS" drama revolved around CHP officers Francis (Frank) Llewelyn "Ponch" Poncherello (Erik Estrada) and Jonathan "Jon" A. Baker (Larry Wilcox). The "CHiPS" movie will be a remake of the series, which aired from September 1977 to May 1983. The new film will star Michael Peña as Frank and Dax Shepard as Jon.

The "CHiPS" movie trailer reveals that this reboot is going to contain some R-rated nudity, as well as some comedy and action. This has become a recent trend in Hollywood, starting with "21 Jump Street" and now the new "Baywatch". In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dax Shepard said that the new movie will be much like "Bad Boys" and "Lethal Weapon", only with cool motorcycle chases.

The entertainment publication also revealed that Frank Poncherello will be an FBI agent going undercover in the CHP. The "CHiPS" movie production worked with the CHP to get the script right. The R rating is based on the movie's showing of nudity, sexual overtones, and naughty language. While the movie might find an audience with those who loved "Bad Boys" or "21 Jump Street", other fans did not like the trailer.

According to The Tribune, many die-hard fans of the original "CHiPS" series will not like the 2017 "CHiPS" movie. The local paper went on to say that fans feared that Michael Peña and Dax Shepard might not treat their characters properly and respectfully. Some loyal fans are on the fence with the remake, but it might be able to do what "21 Jump Street" did for new and old fans: acknowledge the new millennial audience while giving references to the 80s drama series.

There has been no confirmation on whether original actors Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox will make a cameo, but it would certainly be one way for the "CHiPS" movie to appease the fans. The movie's cast also includes Vincent D'Onofrio as the villain, Rene Moran, Kelly Richardson, Kristen Bell, Rosa Salazar, Vida Guerra, Adam Brody, and Jessica McNamee. The movie will hit the theaters on March 24.
