"Dance Moms" coach Abby Lee Miller has two more weeks of freedom before her sentencing on March 8. Miller is looking at two and a half years of jail time or probation for bankruptcy fraud. Her lawyers have two weeks to finalize everything.
Abby Miller currently faces bankruptcy fraud, concealment of bankruptcy assets, and false bankruptcy declarations, according to Refinery 29. The 51-year-old "Dance Moms" coach was supposed to hear her sentence on Feb. 24, but it got pushed back to March 8. Miller has already pledged guilty to the charges against her, although her lawyers now have two more weeks to contest this.
This bankruptcy case goes back as far as 2012 when "Dance Moms" was being aired and produced on the Lifetime network. In December 2010, Miller had filed for bankruptcy, owing more than $400,000 in taxes, but she was indicted with hiding $755,000 amid her bankruptcy claims. Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Melucci said that Miller only wanted to cause harm to her creditors.
Aside from the March 8 hearing, Chief Judge Joy Flowers Conti said that a March 9 session could be penciled in if Miller's lawyers needed more time to present their case again. Deadline reported that Judge Conti also approved Miller's business trip to Mexico from March 2 to March 7. Aside from that, the "Dance Moms" coach will not be allowed to travel elsewhere before the sentencing.
The trip is reportedly part of Miller's dance Masterclass program. It has nothing to do with "Dance Moms" Season 8, although Season 7 has already wrapped up. There are rumors, though, that Season 8 is already being planned and filmed in case the star coach does get jail time or probation. Miller has had 20 counts of fraud since 2015 and she was then charged with violating currency reporting laws in 2016.
