Selena Gomez Dating The Weeknd Despite Mom’s Disapproval?

Selena Gomez has never been happier in her life. Even though the love of her life, The Weeknd, is currently away on a music tour, she is perfectly balancing her long distance relationship and family time. But her mother is reportedly not too thrilled about it.

Being the ideal daughter that she is, Selena Gomez still maintains touch with her roots in spite of becoming a world famous celebrity. This is why, even though she was nominated for the categories of Female Artist of the Year and Best Fan Army, the "Same Old Love" singer chose to skip the iHeartRadio Music Awards and hop down to Dallas to spend some quality time with her family.

All of her family members were there and from the big smiles on their faces, it was evident that they loved the fact that Gomez had her priorities straight. Her aunt posted a bunch of pictures of her Instagram page captioned "Love my baby girl!" which showed Gomez hugging and kissing her cousins and relatives, Teen Vogue reported.

Even though the "Starboy" singer did not join Gomez's family get together, the photographs are a testament to the fact that all's going well in their relationship. Even though long distances are famously regarded as a curse to love relationships, Gomez and The Weeknd are making it work!

However, one person who might not be so thrilled about Gomez's newfound love is her mother. According to Life & Style Magazine, Gomez's mother has already met her new boyfriend and has already disapproved of him.

"Mandy (Gomez's mom) has met Abel (The Weeknd) and thinks he is respectful in person, but she doesn't think he's a good influence on Selena," mentions an insider. More than anything else, her mother allegedly has a problem with the "dirty and drug-related lyrics" that most of The Weeknd's songs are filled with.

This is bad news for Selena Gomez since she loves her family and hails her mother's opinion in high regard. Her mother and the rest of her family does not want Gomez to repeat the same mistake that she did when she dated her ex, Justin Bieber, a relationship that landed her in rehab recently.
