Marvel Entertainment has another project in the works: the highly anticipated "Captain Marvel" movie. "Kong: Skull Island" actress Brie Larson has been tapped as the female superhero. There is still no news about the film's director, but the film's production will start in 2018 for the film's March 2019 release date.
Fans clamored for a solo Black Widow movie, but Marvel didn't given a green light for that one. What Marvel fans will get, though, is the "Captain Marvel" movie, which will feature the story of Carol Danvers, former Ms. Marvel. In the 2019 film, she will be taking up the Captain Marvel mantle and join the other MCU superheroes. "Kong: Skull Island" actress Brie Larson was chosen to play the lead role.
The movie will start filming in 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia with other Marvel productions. Larson told Collider about the idea of the new female hero. "I believe that just seeing women be strong and tough is not answering the question of what a female hero looks like," she said during the interview. Both her role in "Kong: Skull Island" and the upcoming "Captain Marvel" movie depict female main characters who lead with their own kind of strength.
Larson also said that Captain Marvel will be a bridge between the MCU films set in space and the ones on earth. Larson is the only member of the "Captain Marvel" movie cast that has been announced. The script is still under wraps, but comic fans know that the movie will not be complete without fighter jets and some outer space fight scenes.
According to My Entertainment World, the "Captain Marvel" movie production will start on Jan. 8, 2018. The movie plot on the website, however, is only a short profile of Carol Sanders. Carol was first called Ms. Marvel, but she will be the main character in the 2019 movie, which means she will be promoted to Captain Marvel in the middle or at the end of the film.
It's not yet certain whether the "Captain Marvel" movie will portray Carol as someone who is already a superhero called Miss Marvel. The film might also introduce her first encounter with the Kree Captain Marvel (a.k.a. Mar-Vell), being named Ms. Marvel, and then being promoted to Captain Marvel at the end of the movie. The movie is set to hit the theaters in March 2019.
