Justin Timberlake faces backlash from Adele fans after he dissed the singer online. The actor voiced out his opinion that Adele should not have won at the Grammys.
JT took to his Twitter to express his disappointment that Adele won Album of the Year at the recent Grammys. He had hoped for Frank Ocean to receive the award. "Frank Ocean had the REAL Album Of The Year with BLONDE. #NotFakeNews," Timberlake tweeted.
Following his tweet, the "Trolls" star immediately received backlash from Adele fans for his comment. Fans pointed out that no one asked for his opinion. Meanwhile, others responded with several Memes containing the phrase "Shut Up" and "You don't know s**t."
Aside from calling out Adele's Album of the Year award, Timberlake also praised other artists. He spoke about his love for Calvin Harris' new track with Frank Ocean and Migos.
Regardless, Timberlake is not the only person who thinks the Album of the Year award should have been given to another artist. Adele herself said that Beyoncé should have won. She praised the singer during her acceptance speech at the Grammys and expressed how much her "Lemonade" album moved her. To show just how much the album made an impact on her and her friends, Adele cut her trophy in half so she can give the other piece to Beyoncé.
According to E! News, Adele's "25" took home the Album of the Year award. She beat not just Beyoncé but also Sturgill Simpson and Timberlake himself.
As for Frank Ocean, the artist was not part of the nominees at the Grammys. He did not submit his album, perhaps to stay true to his long-standing protest against the awards. Ocean once called out the Grammys for its lack of diversity in a previous interview with the New York Times.
In his interview, Ocean pointed out the dated system of the nomination and screening system. He seems to hint at the preference of the Grammys to award white artists only. This would explain why Beyoncé did not win Album of the Year instead of Adele.
