'Gilmore Girls' Revival News: Netflix In Talks For Season 2 After 'A Year in the Life' Success

After the TV show's continuation, "A Year in the Life", on Netflix in 2016, the entertainment studio is in talks to do another "Gilmore Girls" revival this year. The 2016 series ended with a cliffhanger, which could ultimately be explored in the new second season this year.

Last year, fans eagerly watched Netflix's "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life". The revival picked up a few years after the original series ended in 2007. The new Season 1 consisted of only four episodes that were more than an hour long each. Over a million watched the show on Netflix and boosted the studio's viewer ratings. Now, the studio is considering doing a "Gilmore Girls" revival Season 2.

According to the National Post, Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer at Netflix, told the UK Press Association that the studio was negotiating for another season. The show's creator, Amy Sherman, and her husband and executive producer, Daniel Palladino, are on board for another "Gimore Girls" revival. The two left before Season 7 started, but they got back at the helm for the 2016 continuation.

Sarandos continued to say that the new series' success meant that the fans and viewers were still willing to watch Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai's (Lauren Graham) adventures although this could be difficult. Business Insider recently reported that the two main "Gilmore Girls" revival cast members have already signed up for different projects. Lauren Graham will appear on Fox's "Linda from HR", while Alexis Bledel will join the new Hulu series "The Handmaid's Tale".

The reason so many fans wanted another "Gilmore Girls" revival was that the new Season 1 ended in a cliffhanger, with Rory telling her mother that she was pregnant, although it was never revealed who the father was. This brought the series full circle, indicating that Rory might raise her child without a father like Lorelai did in the original series. This could also be the main plot of the next "Gilmore Girls" revival.

Despite the general enthusiasm and eagerness of the audience for more episodes, Sarandos clarified that the negotiations were still in the preliminary stage and it might actually be years before another season airs. Netflix has seen success with many of its web TV series and the first "Gilmore Girls" revival raised the studio's number of subscribers and viewers by a million. Fans will have to wait, though, whether the negotiations will end positively.
