AMD Ryzen has marked a milestone for the company in high-performance processor market. The chips provide great value for money for enthusiasts and gamers. The current flagship series - Ryzen 7 might soon be succeeded by a mammoth 16-core chip according to the new reports.
Competing with Intel, AMD might release its new 16-core chip that will be based on a completely new platform. The new processor will have six more cores than the current 10-core processor from Intel - Core i7 6950X which is the current flagship Desktop CPU from Intel. The upcoming 16-core. 32-thread CPU will be a behemoth of a chip and ultimate solution for those seeking powerful multi-core CU for multi-threaded workloads, Forbes reported.
According to the reports, AMD is working on a new platform called LGA (Land Grid Array) for its upcoming 16-core CPU. LGA technology is currently used by Intel and it features pins in the CPU socket. The new chip will finally support quad-channel DDR4 memory which was the weakest point of Ryzen and it disappointed many gamers, Digital Trends reported.
The socket for the new chip is reported to be an LGA SP3r2 which will have a TDP of 150w and will support AMD's rumoured X399 chipset. The clock speed is 2.4GHz for the base frequency, boosting to 2.8GHz which is rather average. But this 16-core processor from AMD will not be targeted at gamers but content creators like video editors which require multi-threaded processing.
The new reports also claim that performance issue with the current generation Ryzen chips have been ironed out and the new processors will be excellent for gaming. Overclocking is a major issue for Ryzen chips and the rumoured chips have dodged that barrier too.
There will a couple of Ryzen chips that might be announced in next 4-6 months and the flagship will carry 16 cores with support for quad-channel DDR4 memory. The processor is expected to retail around $1000 which should provide a serious competition to Intel.
