After his "One Direction" band mates Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, it is Harry Styles' turn to fly solo, as he is all set to release his debut single on April 7, 2017. While 1D fans could not be happier, there is one person who is feeling the heat of the occasion, afraid that his former partner will outshine his solo career - Zayn Malik.
Zayn Malik has found success in his solo career after breaking away from "One Direction". But now that Harry Styles is chasing his dream of releasing his own solo music, it is being reported that Malik is a little on edge about Styles outshining him.
"Out of all the 1D guys, Harry is the one Zayn has always felt the most competitive with, and with good reason," an insider mentions, Heavy reports. "He's been hearing from music insiders that Harry's new work is the bomb, it's edgy, it's different, and it's going to dominate the charts."
Malik's fears might not be baseless after all. Harry Styles' solo album has been one of the most anticipated albums of the years, especially because he let loose the secret that his single would reveal his "most authentic self."
Harry Styles released a sneak peek of his debut single on YouTube - a 30-seconds video which shows a dripping wet Styles opening a door full of light. The video ends with a close-up of the "One Direction" singer's eyes. Even though the sneak peek did not contain any of Styles' vocals, it has already garnered over 200 thousand views in just a couple of days.
With so much hype surrounding Harry Styles' music, it is understandable that Zayn Malik would feel anxiety. However, there had been no bitter feud between the two when Malik had left "One Direction," years back. "I feel like I'm doing what's right- right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good," he had told The Sun at the time.
To make things interesting, Harry Styles chose to release the snippet of his solo single a day after Zayn Malik released his latest single, "Still got Time." Are the former "One Direction" band mates fighting to secure the top spot when it comes to solo albums?
