The Upside Down will play a bigger role in "Stranger Things" Season 2. Its mysteries and the creatures thriving in it will be unraveled in the installment, according to the show's music composer Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein.
Stein and Dixon sat down for an interview with Ars Technica to talk about their work on the soundtrack for "Stranger Things" Season 2. They talked about experimenting with music that would fit the creepiness and dark theme of the Upside Down. "The Upside Down is weird and experimental, and we approached it with something like the Alien soundtrack, but this music focused on the monster," Stein said.
The composers also teased what fans should expect to see from the alternate reality. Dixon assured that "Stranger Things" Season 2 further explores the Upside Down. Viewers will experience more of the dark place and see more of its inhabitants. "There are new characters, fun, and the upside-down will be more of a place you'll spend more time," he said.
Season 1 of the Netflix series hinted that there are more creatures living in the Upside Down. Fans may remember the embryo-like sac thriving in the place. Hopper saw one during his search for Will. It seems there could be more of this sac around the dark place.
According to The Independent, co-creator Matt Duffer said that in "Stranger Things" Season 2 Will experiences the Upside Down more. He suffers post-traumatic stress disorder from the time he spent in the place. He sees visions of the dark place including its inhabitants. The question is whether these visions are real or not.
Likewise, the trailer for "Stranger Things" Season 2 gave a glimpse at one of the new monsters from the Upside Down. Nearing the end of the preview is a sketch of a giant creature with long longs. It seems Will drew the monster, which he later sees come to life outside his home.
