The first full trailer of the highly anticipated Zack Snyder “Justice League” movie dropped online this week. But, the excitement of fans who had long been waiting for it quickly turned to disappointment when they noticed someone was noticeably absent. Superman was nowhere in the trailer.
Granting that the “Justice League” trailer gave glimpses of epic action scenes and ties to other DC Extended Universe films but Superman’s absence is a major issue. Fans know that his death in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will be a factor in the upcoming film. They at least expected a glimpse of the superhero played by Henry Cavill in the trailer.
In “Dawn of Justice,” the final shot was of Clark Kent’s coffin briefly levitating, which seemed to suggest that Superman will soon rise from the grave. According to Variety, Henry Cavill was signed on to reprise the role in “Justice League” but has not been involved in the promotions of the movie as well. His participation in the film appears to be not as much as fans of DC Extended Universe had anticipated.
“Justice League” spoilers indicate that the movie will revolve around Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) assembling the team to protect Earth from Darkseid’s Parademon forces reported The Guardian. With Superman’s absence in the trailer, the theory that he will be coming from the dead as a villain has risen. Another theory is that he will be rising from the dead toward the middle of the movie to save his comrades from certain death.
Another possibility is that Superman’s role in “Justice League” is so limited to warrant an appearance in the trailer. There is a bright side to this rather disappointing scenario, however. The newer characters such as The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) will be getting more exposure in the movie. But, this may not be enough consolation to fans who believe that the DC Extended Universe was founded because of the Man of Steel. The movie will be in theaters starting November 17.
