Film distributor Open Road has scheduled "Home Again" for release in the fall. Reese Witherspoon leads the romantic comedy film, which opens on Sept. 8.
Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg announced the release date of "Home Again" on Thursday. In a recent press statement shared by The Wrap, he officially marked Sept. 8 as the film's U.S. release date.
"Home Again" follows the story of a newly separated mother of two (Witherspoon), whose life changed after she took in three young men. These three charismatic guys eventually become part of her unconventional family.
Hallie Meyers-Shyer wrote and directed the film. Her mother Nancy Meyers co-produced "Home Again" alongside Erika Olde from Black Bicycle Entertainment, who also financed the movie.
Natt Wolf ("Paper Towns"), Jon Rudnitsky ("Patchwork") and Pico Alexander ("A Most Violent Year") also star opposite Witherspoon. They play the three charismatic men who overturn the mother's new life in Los Angeles. Michael Sheen ("Passengers"), Lake Bell ("No Escape") and Candice Bergen ("Rules Don't Apply") are also in "Home Again."
Reports about Witherspoon taking on the lead role in "Home Again" first came in August. By September, Ortenberg released a statement to confirm her involvement in the film. "Home Again is a funny and sparkling script that will be brought to life by the incomparable Reese Witherspoon," Ortenberg said in a press release posted by Entertainment Weekly.
Nancy Meyers has a track record of blockbuster hits including "The Holiday" and The Intern." Witherspoon was initially offered the lead role in "The Intern" instead of Anne Hathaway, but she had to back out due to schedule conflicts. Ortenberg is confident that "Home Again" will be another hit. However, this remains to be seen, especially since Sept. 8 is also the release date on the remake of Stephen King's horror movie "IT."
