"Black-ish" spinoff is yet to get a green light by ABC but it is already assembling an impressing cast for its pilot. The latest talented actor to be cast as a regular for the high anticipated series is Chris Parnell, who beloved by his fans for his stints at "Saturday Night Live."
Even though not many details have been revealed about his role, he will appear in both the episode on the original show that gives way to the spinoff as well as the "Black-ish" spinoff itself, Deadline reported. He will be playing the administrator of the college that Yara Shahidi's character, Zoey Johnson attends.
Parnell will be joined by Matt Walsh, who has starred in "Veep," in running the college, even though the latter is said to have a recurring role as opposed to a regular on "Black-ish" spinoff. Another regular who has been cast early on is Trevor Jackson of "American Crime" alum, whose yet unnamed character will be joining Zoey's college as a freshman.
Zoey is the highly privileged daughter of Dre and Rainbow. The main plot of "Black-ish" spinoff will focus on how Zoey deals with college life and the hurdles of being a young adult, TVLine reported.
The "Black-ish" spinoff that is being shepherded by its parent show's creator Kenya Barris and former showrunner Larry Wilmore is eagerly awaited by fans. However, there is no news as to the estimated date when ABC could give this series a green signal.
It could be a while for the network to finalize its decision since the "Black-ish" spinoff is not without its share of competitors. "The Goldbergs" spinoff from the 90s, starring Bryan Callen and Tim Meadows, is also in the running for an approval from ABC. Both of the shows are aiming for a 2017-18 release.
