Fans have since speculated that "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will feature several Force Ghosts, including that of Anakin Skywalker. Now a source claimed this is true and hinted at a major spoiler that happens with the character.
According to The Express, a source who claims to have worked on the production of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" leaked this spoiler. The insider, who identified himself as an ex-Lucasfilm employee, confirmed that Force Ghosts appear in the film.
The insider likewise confirmed speculations that Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost appears in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." He also said that Yoda's Force Ghost is in the film. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan Kenobi does not return as one.
The source also gave what could be a major spoiler for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." He said that Force Ghosts can be destroyed. This is what happens to Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost. He does not survive in the film. Sadly, Ben kills Anakin's Force Ghost.
Fans may be aware by now that Ben Solo in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," otherwise known as Kylo Ren. It remains unclear though why he kills Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost. Perhaps he destroys Anakin when he realized that he is not communicating with his grandfather Darth Vader, whom he idolizes.
The source's confirmation that Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost appears in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" came after actor Hayden Christensen hinted at his return in the franchise. He said a few cryptic words when asked about his relationship with the films during the Star Wars Celebration. According to Looper, the actor admitted that he is happy to be back. He also said that his "relationship with the films is still very much, sort of, very present" in his life.
Regardless, it remains unknown whether Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost does appear in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." It is interesting to point out though what Disney CEO Bob Iger said about the film. He confirmed that the installment reunites the Skywalker family, so there is a chance that Anakin does appear.
