Kids of all ages can now be exposed to the classic music of The Beatles in a different way: a book. Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has announced that a children's book for "Octopus's Garden," a song he penned, is on its way, according to The Guardian.
Starr, who originally penned the song 44 years ago under his real name of Richard Starkey, has given the rights to the song to Simon & Schuster. Illustrator Ben Court, best known for the Aliens Love Underpants! series, will draw the pictures for the song's novelization.
"It gives me great pleasure to collaborate with Ben Cort and Simon & Schuster for the further adventures of 'Octopus's Garden' Peace and love," said Starr.
Unlike many Beatles songs, "Octopus's Garden" really was inspired by cephalopods' underwater adventures. Petter Sellers reportedly told Starr how octopuses wander through the sea, collecting shiny objects.
This inspired Starr to write the song while on a break from The Beatles.
As for the story in the book, five children will play in the shade with an octopus, as the sea creature will offer them turtle rides and take them to a sunken pirate ship, among other adventures.
The whimsy of "Octopus's Garden" and its lyrics naturally lends itself to a children's book. Lyrics such as "We would sing and dance around, / Because we know we can't be found," will surely play well into the story about five friends and a fishy fellow.
Starr's publisher, Ingrid Selberg, commented on the family-friendly nature of the tale. "This is a beautiful and funny book that children, parents and grandparents will love sharing," she told The Guardian.
The picture book, which will come with new music from Ringo Starr, will be released on Oct. 24 in the U.K. It will follow wth an American release in January 2014.
