Yesterday, up-and-coming rapper Lil Snupe was shot dead in his home state of Louisiana.
Though the rapper was still a relative unknown, his impact on fans and the rap scene did not go by unnoticed. Topics such as "#RIPLilSnupe," "Lil Snupe" and "Meek Mill" (the producer/rapper who discovered Lil Snupe) all trended on Twitter yesterday. Most notably, #RIPLilSnupe was the most tweeted hashtag in the United States for a majority of the afternoon.
Meek Mill, who initially tweeted for Lil Snupe to hit him up finally spoke out on the social media website shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday.
"R.I.P. 2 my lol f**king n***a #lilsnupe I tried everything in my power 2 get that kid out of the streets," he said, shedding some light on the situation.
Mill then sent out this Instagram photo of his protégé:
Mill later sent out an Instagram photo of a text message conversation he had with Lil Snupe on June 9. "On Some Real S**t Bruh Thank You 4 Just Giving me The opportunity 2 Do My Thang!!! You Really Changed A N***a Life Mane," said Snupe. Later in the text, Mill told Lil Snupe that Rick Ross wanted the young rising MC to send a sample, saying "here's ya shot."
It was clear that Lil Snupe was full of promise as a young rapper, but life on the streets was too big of a pull for the teenager.
"The streets killed my Lil n***a Snupe...I always told him don't try 2 keep it real wit the streets.... Bcuz they won't keep it real wit you," Meek Mill tweeted. "Some people go 2 college...Some people go 2 jail...Some make it into heaven some make it into hell...nobody wanna lose nobody wanna fail."
Details are still scarce on the homicide. MStars awaits a statement from the Winnfield City Police Department in Louisiana and will give updates as they come in.
