Disney XD's forthcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels is replacing the since cancelled animated show Star War: The Clone Wars, but it still shares some essential aspects as its predecessor. Like Clone Wars, Rebels will act as a bridge between two chapters of the Star Wars universe (Episodes III and IV). Other Star Wars projects coming out of the merger with Disney are also starting to cultivate some buzz. Along with Rebels and the 2015, J.J. Abrams-directed Episode VII, we will also get some spinoffs for specific characters. So who and what will be in all of these projects?
As evident in the show's title, Star Wars: Rebels is set to focus on the origins of the Rebel Alliance that we all remember from the original Star Wars trilogy. The show promises to introduce new characters for fans, but who can we expect? According to some reports, just like the casting calls for Episode VII, we can expect to see some teenaged protagonists in this animated series.
Another inviting venture for the Star Wars universe is the announcement of spinoff projects. Projected for 2016 and 2018, at least two film ideas have been rumored and possibly confirmed. We could be getting the respective spinoffs involving Boba Fett and Han Solo. Plus, JoBlo claims that the Han Solo story "will focus on Han and Chewy's relationship, potentially on how they met and became partners on the Millennium Falcon."
Should we expect a Han Solo and/or a Boba Fett film? Are these the characters you want to see?
Many projects have come as a result of Disney's purchase of LucasFilm, but one that could potentially be a huge revenue stream for the company is something called "Star Wars Land." This rumor is about a Disney World expansion to attract more fans to the resort in 2018. Nothing has been confirmed but Disney World spokesman Bryan Malenius recently said this in an interview:
For more than 25 years, our partnership with LucasFilm has helped bring the imaginative universe of Star Wars to life at our parks and resorts across the globe. We remain excited to explore new ways to bring these stories to life and have nothing to announce at this time.
This is clearly a vague statement, but it definitely keeps the topic open in terms of "Star Wars Land."
