Mariah Carey and Miguel followed up on their "05.06.13" date teaser video with the release of their first collaboration "Beautiful." On the heels of the success of the original version, MiMi has taped Harlem's own A$AP Rocky too add a few bars to the summer hit.
The highly anticipated collaboration ups the "Summer hit," anti, as Rocky's verse does little for the already popular track. Pretty Flacko raps, "Shawty got grill like Chipotle and my favorite meal be the shrimp lo mein." Even with the simplicity of the Harlem rappers verse, the melodies and tones highlights the angelic voices of both Mariah and Miguel, dispelling any doubt in Mariah's vocal abilities. While the lyrics, "You're beautiful, and I can't pretend that that doesn't mean a thing to me," are nice and simple, it is the vocal ability of both Grammy Award winning artists that draws listeners in, as oppose melodramatic music.
This soft laidback track is not what you expect when you compare Mimi an Miguel's various collaborations with other artists. On "Beautiful" it's almost as though the "American Idol" judge and "Adorn" singer's teaming up falls short of a playlist repeat worthy song, as it falls shy of boredom. However, true vocal connoisseurs and diehard fans can appreciate a song like this, as auto-tune and pseudo-singers continue to emerge on a daily basis.
According to Rap-UP, Mariah plans to release four more remixed versions of "Beautiful" with resung vocals including a Spanglish version ("Hermosa"), a hip-hop collaboration, and dance remixes.
