A$AP Ferg's excellent Trap Lord kicks off with a surprise. After a minute or so of low-key drums and talk of basketball greatness, "Let It Go" proper begins with the line "Kill a motherf***er with a Magnum .44." The line is jarring, and sets the tone for the rest of the A$AP Mob member's debut. Still, even with that knowledge, nothing could have prepared me for the "Let It Go" music video: Read More »
A$AP Ferg's Trap Lord was one of the best album's of 2013, full stop. So any new material from Fergenstein is greatly appreciated especially when that new material is a re-working of an overhyped, ultimately lackluster Drake track. The A$AP Mob member took on "Trophies", renaming the Hit Boy-produced track "DTM Awards 14." Check it out below: Read More »
A$AP Ferg's slow-burning, reflective "Hood Pope" comes at a perfect moment in the middle of his recent mixtape-turned-debut-album Trap Lord. After the gold-flaunting circus sound of "Shabba" and the menace of "Lord", but a full two tracks before he squanders a bit of the album's momentum with a chorus of "I f**ked your b**ch" and "She sucked my d**k." It's no secret that I wholeheartedly approve of A$AP Ferg's block-destroying dancehall ode "Shabba" (as well as the album that birthed it). Still, it's pretty crazy for the track to get a full-on stamp of approval from Mister Ranks himself. Read More »
Last year, Joey Bada$$ garnered a lot of unwarranted praise for his Golden Age-aping all style, no substance mixtape 1999. Fellow dollar sign connoisseurs A$AP Mob must have taken notice, because their next collaborative effort will have a '90s throwback sound, according to A$AP Ferg. Read More »
Good gawd. A$AP Ferg and Lord Flacko did their best on the Trap Lord single "Shabba", but Angel Haze has me thinking she deserved the beat more. As part of her 30 Gold series that has already seen Angel spit over beats made famous by Jay Z, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar, she destroys the A$AP Mob cut with the sort-of aggressive, face-stomping wordplay that made her famous. I don't have a picture of a puffin to soften this unpopular opinion, but here goes: A$AP Rocky is very not good at rapping. His songs tend to be absolutely terrible, only occasionally elevated by guest appearances. "Bath Salt" and "F**king Problem" are excellent examples of this. I'd go so far as to say that the only good thing that Rocky has given us is A$AP Ferg. The duo performed "Shabba" off of Ferg's incredible Trap Lord on Arsenio last night. Read More »
More than a few people noticed how uncomfortable A$AP Rocky looked around openly gay NBA center Jason Collins at the MTV VMAs. The possible Rihanna flame seemed to fidget and side-eye Collins, the first active player in any of the big four American sports leagues to come out of the closet, as he gave a speech detailing his coming-out journey. Rocky, who has gone on record as 100% pro-gay, apologized and set the record straight in an interview with The Stashed. Read More »
Luke Bryan has crashed the Billboard party for a second week in a row. The country crooner's fourth studio album, "Crash My Party" sits atop the Billboard 200 for the second week, besting new releases from John Mayer, Jimmy Buffet and Earl Sweatshirt. Read More »
Let's be real honest. A$AP Ferg is not a good rapper. His songs live or die on the strength of the beat, the guest verses and the hook. Luckily for us "Shabba" (an ode to dancehall legend Shabba Ranks and the latest single off the upcoming Trap Lord mixtape) comes through on all three counts. Read More »
A$AP Rocky may be called Pretty Flacko, but he showed one fan that if you mess with him it can get ugly. The "One Train" rapper got Harlem on a fan at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia last Friday night. Read More »
