The BET Awards 2013 happened last night (June 30) in Los Angeles. Though the performances were what really stole the spotlight, the best in black entertainment was awarded during the ceremony.
Drake, who held an astonishing 12 nominations, ended up winning three awards. His hit "Started From The Bottom" received two of the night's biggest trophies, Viewer's Choice and Video of the year. His part on A$AP Rocky's "Problems" won Best Collaboration, along with 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar.
Speaking of Lamar, the newcomer tied Drake for the most wins of the evening. The "Money Trees" rapper won Best Male Hip-Hop Artists and Best New Artist, largely due to his critically acclaimed hit "Swimming Pools (Drank)."
The two big winners celebrated the evening in very different ways.
Drake was a no-show at the ceremony. Though his official reason via his Twitter was that he was finishing his album and spending time with his family before he went on tour with Miguel, the "Take Care" rapper reportedly did not want to have another run-in with Chris Brown.
Meanwhile, Lamar gave an energetic performance of his track "Vibes" along with Erykah Badu.
He also took the stage with Miguel to give a stellar show of their song "Pour Up." During that critically-acclaimed performance, Lamar also threw in lines of "Swimming Pools."
Miguel received the award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist in a surprise win over Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake and Usher. Rihanna took home the Female trophy.
Other winners include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nicki Minaj, Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx.
A full list of winners can be seen over at the LA Times' website.
The ceremony was hosted by Kevin Hart.
